Regeneration of activated carbon to remove unpleasant odors from gases – what are the differences in types and characteristics between steam-regenerated activated carbon and air-regenerated activated carbon?
Different raw materials for activated carbon result in various types of it. However, both steam and hot air regeneration (both forms of thermal regeneration) can be used to regenerate activated carbon. Yet, due to the different methods of using activated carbon, it is necessary to choose the appropriate regeneration method~~

The regeneration temperature of activated carbon in air should not exceed 350°C, as studies have shown that the activated carbon will burn at temperatures above this value. Air regeneration of activated carbon generally involves evaporating the adsorbed organic matter, but if particulate matter has coked, the air cannot be regenerated. Steam regeneration of activated carbon can enable a reaction between C and water to produce CO and H2 at a certain temperature (around 800°C); of course, this process requires an oxygen-free environment in order to achieve effective regeneration. Projects have already been successfully completed, with the iodine value of the regenerated activated carbon reaching the level before adsorption.
