Hello, everyone. The diazotization section in my chemical plant requires steam for heating, and 316L material pipes are being used for this purpose. However, due to the high acidity of the materials inside the reactor, these steam pipes get damaged after just a few days of use. I am reaching out for help. Normal operating conditions: The pH of the material in the tank is around 1, the temperature of the superheated steam is approximately 250°C, and the steam pipeline has a diameter of DN100.
Pressure and the specific composition of the medium are also required
It’s necessary to know what acid it is, with such a low pH
Does the steam pipe extend directly into the reactor? Why not use a jacket or external coil?
*Is it acidic? If it is *ao acid, ferrous stainless steels such as 1Cr17 and 1Cr17Mo can be tried
I checked the environmental impact assessment; there are 5 production lines in the workshop, all of which use salt and acid. Line 1 also uses a small amount of acetic acid. There are on-site pH meters, and it can be seen that the pH level is generally around 1. Reaction at atmospheric pressure.
In the old workshop, the steam pipes went straight from the kettle lid into the kettle; when they became damaged, a new pipe was installed. In the new workshop, however, the steam pipes are located outside the kettle, connected via flanges at the opening at the bottom of the kettle. Heating the jacket or outer coil may be relatively slow; heating with steam will be faster. Try that type of effective Hastelloy then. .
For saline acids, use Hastelloy B series alloys
