Ladies and gentlemen: I have just started using a steam heater to heat water for heating; the steam enters the heat exchanger where it condenses into water, which is then discharged from the device. Since the project requires heat calculation, steam flow meters are used in the system design to measure steam consumption. I would like to ask whether it is possible to estimate the steam flow rate by using other flow meters to measure the condensate flow rate
LZ doesn’t even say what type of flow meter is being used; how can other flow meters be utilized then?
The condensate may be in a saturated state, and since most flowmeters have throttling functions, this leads to inaccurate measurements of liquid flash evaporation; therefore, measurement should be taken on the steam side. You can try using vortex street measurement for saturated water, with a warning of the appearance of flash vapor cavities. @jiaguoyun
Thank you both. Orifice flow meters for steam measurement are designed for use in steam measurement applications. I want to use an electromagnetic flowmeter to measure the condensate, using the amount of condensate as a substitute for the amount of steam in measurements. I would like to know if this is feasible.
If the steam inlet is roughly equal to the condensate outlet, it is recommended to measure the condensate. Regardless of the type of flow meter used, measuring liquids is more accurate than measuring gases. But you must ensure that the condensate is entirely water; in other words, you need to provide everyone with information on the temperature and pressure at each measurement point, as well as details regarding the range of flow variations, in order to be able to give appropriate recommendations. The required electromagnetic condition is that the conductivity should not be lower than 5 us/cm
