Why, in compressed members, when selecting rebar, it is better to use rebar with a larger diameter and fewer strands, given that the cross-sectional area of the rebar remains the same, rather than using rebar with a smaller diameter and more strands. Is it easy to manufacture and install?
That should be the case; the standards state that in order to overcome the difficulties in design and construction caused by thick rebar and dense reinforcement arrangements, the load-bearing rebar can be arranged in bundles. Therefore, it is preferable to choose a thicker one for the convenience of design and construction.
When the cross-section of the member is fixed, the number of rebar bars should be limited by the requirement for proper spacing between them (to meet bonding requirements); if this limit is exceeded, the diameter of the rebar bars should be increased while reducing the number of bars used. Of course, when there is sufficient space in the component, an appropriate number of rebar bars is beneficial for the component.

Compressed steel bars also have a requirement regarding stiffness (bending); those that are too thin have poor stiffness.
