On November 10, 2015, the 200,000-ton alkylation unit of Guoxin Hesheng New Energy Company began producing products successfully. As the first alkylation unit in Shanxi Province, it filled the gap in the deep processing of gas in the region. The plant is currently in trial operation, with a daily production of about 200 tons of alkylated oil. The performance metrics are good: the octane rating is above 95, the sulfur content is 5.9 ppm, and the boiling range is 30.77°C–193.52°C.
There is very little demand for alkylated oil in Shanxi locally; when the price is appropriate, Guoxin Hesheng New Energy Resources tends to move northward as the main direction for its distribution. The Beijing-Tianjin region currently adheres to the National V gasoline standard, and local end-users highly favor alkylated fuel, with the proportion of such fuel used reaching as high as 40%. Therefore, the Beijing-Tianjin region has a strong demand for alkylated oils, and currently resources from Shandong, Hebei, and Henan provinces are flowing into this area.
The production capacity of alkylation units is expanding rapidly; as of now, the raw material processing capacity of such units in China has reached 13.4 million tons per year. The competition among C4 fractions after etherification of the raw materials is quite fierce.

There are an increasing number of alkylation units, especially in local refineries, but there are two issues: the source of carbon four feedstock, particularly the shortage of tetraolefins； The alkylation techniques mainly include the sulfuric acid method, solid acid method, and hydrofluoric acid method. The hydrofluoric acid method is hardly used anymore due to environmental concerns. The sulfuric acid method requires low investment, but the waste acid generated must be treated.

As a rule, the waste acid treatment unit is put into use only after the alkylation main unit has stabilized or been calibrated. As for the details of the company’s waste acid treatment unit, they have not appeared in the newspapers; I truly have no idea, and I am very sorry. :L
