I work in the bearing industry; this time a client needs a bearing to be used in an environment containing hydrogen sulfide gas and water vapor, where there is a risk of stress corrosion. Bearing steel is required to have a surface hardness of HRC 60-65. According to relevant information, stress corrosion should be prevented by keeping the steel’s hardness below HRC 20. I would like to ask whether it is possible to solve this problem by spraying polytetrafluoroethylene on the fully quenched bearing steel surface or by applying other treatments to enhance its resistance to hydrogen sulfide-induced stress corrosion Also, can hydrogen sulfide corrosion inhibitors be added to lithium grease No. 3?
