Heat source issue for hydrogen production from methanol

I would like to ask everyone: can steam be used as a heat source for hydrogen production from methanol?
I once encountered a system with a capacity of 1000?3; it used hot steam to heat the heat transfer oil, but only the sensible heat was utilized. The steam is discharged for use elsewhere.
I mean, is it not allowed in principle or is it a matter of calorific value?
It should be possible, after all; neither steam nor heat transfer oil takes part in the reaction – they simply flow through the shell side of the converter
