In crane maintenance, ensuring an adequate supply of \"oil\" is a very important aspect; furthermore, the selection of engine oil is also an important issue in crane maintenance. When selecting engine oil, we should take into full account the important factor of the operating environment in which the crane is used, especially temperature. Experts point out that under different temperature conditions, cranes should be equipped with engine oil of corresponding viscosity grades and quality levels. The classification standards for viscosity grades can refer to those established by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), while the quality grades of engine oils are based on the criteria set by the American Petroleum Institute (API). However, in our country, the oils used for crane engines are usually classified by viscosity grade. Different viscosity grades mean that the engine oil can function in different ambient temperature conditions. In simple terms, the higher the viscosity rating of the oil, the higher the ambient temperature levels in which it can be used with cranes, and vice versa. Generally, in summer, crane engines can be equipped with engine oil of SAE40 or SAE50 grade, while in winter, it is better to use engine oil of SAE5W-40 or SAE15W-40 grade (W stands for Winter).
