What size cable is required for a 65kw shielded pump? Is a 95 gauge cable necessary?
It depends on the distance; if it’s close, 50 square meters will be sufficient, while if it’s far, 95 square meters or more might be needed.
Assuming it is a motor powered at 380V, the rated current can be calculated as I=P/1.732UcosΦ=65/1.732/0.38/0.8=123.45A. According to available data, the current-carrying capacity of a 50-square-millimeter wire is around 173A when installed in air. Taking into account factors such as the environment, the way in which the wire is installed, and the distance over which it runs (resulting in voltage drops), a 50-square-millimeter wire is generally sufficient; a 70-square-millimeter wire would be an even better choice. The specific wire diameter should be determined based on the actual conditions of your pump in the field.
The line resistance R = resistivity (1.75X10-8 Ω·m for copper) * cable length (m) / cable cross-sectional area (m2). The voltage drop along the line U = line current I * line resistance R. Calculate it yourself, making sure to pay attention to unit conversions; a 50 square millimeter cross-sectional area should be sufficient.
Distance determines the voltage drop; without knowing the distribution distance for 380V, it’s difficult to determine the appropriate cable size. Normally, a 50 square millimeter cable is sufficient for short distances, while a 70 square millimeter cable is needed for longer distances. For very long distances, exceeding the maximum allowable distribution distance for 380V – such as 300 meters – it’s not economical; it’s better to shorten the distance in order to reduce cable costs
