Hello everyone, I would like to know about the function of reinforcement plates in steel structures and the relevant design standards For example, where are reinforcement plates usually installed? Are the reinforcement plates also welded in place on site? :handshake
In technical terms, the reinforcement plate should be referred to as stiffening ribs. Literally, it means increasing the load-bearing capacity of the cross-section. It is mainly used in two places: 1. When local stability is not sufficient, installing stiffeners can reduce the size of the plate sections ； 2. Force is transmitted to the area with greater concentration of strength. It can be understood this way (not necessarily correct): no stiffeners are used, with only the flanges and web bearing the load ； After reinforcement is installed, the reinforcement also participates in bearing the load.
