The polarization of the corrosion cell leads to a reduction in the corrosion current, thereby decreasing the corrosion rate. Without polarization, the corrosion rate of metal materials and equipment would also be much higher. Polarization is equivalent to a form of resistance; increasing polarization is beneficial for corrosion prevention.
As the corrosion process progresses, in most cases, the cathodic or anodic processes are slowed down due to obstruction; this phenomenon is known as polarization. The corrosion of metals slows down with polarization.
