Dear sea friends, in the workshop you can see workers using cranes to lift objects; sometimes they use steel cables, sometimes slings, and at other times chains. So under what circumstances is each of these lifting devices used?
Slings should be used for lifting components that need protection or are soft; steel ropes should be used for heavy, large, and hard objects. Sling chains should be employed when there is a risk of damage due to sharp edges
Regardless of the type of lifting rigging, the most important thing is not to use it beyond its limits. Steel cables: Generally made by weaving steel wires together; they have the widest range of applications and can handle large lifting capacities. Slings: Purchased as finished products from the market; they are flexible lifting devices suitable for items that require protection on their surface. Compared to steel cables, slings have lower durability and are more sensitive to overloading. When worn to a certain extent, it must be retired promptly. The sling has a specified lifting capacity, which must be taken into account when using it. Sling chain: Made of seamless ring chains, it is generally suitable for fixed processing stages. It has a wide range of applicable operating conditions; especially in high-temperature environments, the sling chain is almost the only option. Other items such as hooks, U-bolts, and magnetic lifting devices can be equipped according to the company’s financial situation and process requirements.
