Questions about the water-cooled jacket

I read in the book that there are internal water-cooled jackets and external water-cooled jackets. How can these two types of structures be distinguished from each other? What are their respective advantages and disadvantages?
For the jacket, the cooling medium may flow through the outer tube or the inner tube.
It’s what was mentioned on the 2nd floor: internal water cooling means cold water flows inside the tubes, while external cooling means cold water flows through the outer casing. As for performance, I personally think internal water cooling is better
