Coal tar wastewater has high concentrations of pollutants and a complex composition; in addition to ammonia nitrogen and sulfur compounds, it also contains monocyclic or polycyclic aromatic compounds such as phenols, indoles, and quinolines, as well as heterocyclic organic pollutants containing nitrogen, sulfur, and oxygen. It is considered wastewater that is difficult to treat. High-concentration coal tar wastewater is first passed through an ammonia evaporation tower before entering the wastewater treatment system, to remove ammonia nitrogen and low-boiling-point organic compounds, thereby reducing the pollution load on subsequent treatment units. The wastewater after ammonia evaporation requires two pretreatment steps: oil removal and adjustment. Oil removal helps to effectively reduce the oil content in the wastewater before it enters the biochemical treatment unit. The regulating tank can adjust the water quality and volume, preventing large fluctuations in these parameters in the wastewater entering the treatment system. The treated wastewater is fed into the subsequent biochemical system for nitrogen removal, as well as the removal of phenols, cyanides, and other toxic and harmful substances.
