A Cologne BM100 radar level gauge has a measurement error of 50 millimeters. Adjusting the tank height to correct this error doesn’t seem appropriate to me; is there any better way?
The key is to see if there was an issue with the originally set tank height; if so, it should be corrected accurately. Furthermore, is what was mentioned above the absolute level error? If so, it’s not that high; it’s not important and can be ignored. But the relative level must be accurate

If the initial height setting for the empty tank is correct and yet you encounter this 50-millimeter error, making adjustments at that point is merely trying to round things off; as you said, it’s not recommended to make such changes. Well, we’ve never seen a process that refuses to accept errors of even 50 millimeters. . . It’s also possible that you really have high standards. .
50mm error – it’s considered large some times, and small other times. Check whether the set value of the tank height parameter in the instrument configuration differs from the actual value by 50 mm; measure the actual value on-site, rather than relying on the drawings. If it’s really poor, just make the changes – that’s no problem. If it’s not poor, then check the waveform to see if the radar is detecting false signals. Additionally, if the difference in each liquid level is that large, it can be adjusted directly without any problem.
The tank height setting is more or less the same; what matters is the accuracy of the radar, in terms of millimeters.
It depends on what the 50mm error is being compared against; whether the reference zero points for both are the same, and whether the set tank height corresponds to the actual tank height.
The tank height is a fixed value! It is necessary to determine the can height properly so that the measurement is accurate. Once the error is set, it cannot be reduced based on that value! Interfering waves can be blocked! The blind spots at the top and bottom can be adjusted as needed! Most of the others are fixed values!
Radar vs. magnetic flap? If it’s a fixed deviation, adjusting the bias will suffice; anyway, the error isn’t large. It takes some effort to get it to the millimeter or centimeter level, but it depends on whether such an effort is necessary
