In the instrument installation diagrams, pressure transmitters have different installation methods for pressure tapping pipes in the case of gases, liquids, and steam; there is also a short-installation option, where the pressure tapping pipe is very short, just like in the case of pressure gauges. In what situations is short installation generally used? When designing, many people choose a short installation configuration in order to avoid or minimize heat tracing. If a short installation format is sufficient, then why use such long pressure transfer pipes?
Generally, transmitters require insulation boxes; short installation lengths make it difficult to install such boxes. Moreover, most pressure sampling points are located at high positions, which complicates maintenance.
The use of a long pressure tap pipe is mainly to lead it to a lower location for easier maintenance. Also, in the north, antifreeze isolation fluid is generally used.
Short installation is generally used in less important situations
Long pressure lead pipes are used sometimes to add isolation tanks, sometimes to place instruments together on a dashboard, and sometimes to bring instruments located at higher positions to lower positions for easier viewing through pressure lead pipes.

Pressure transmitters experience a relatively high frequency of failures, and the locations where pressure is taken are usually not convenient for maintenance; therefore, pressure tubing is used for installation. Additionally, in cases involving high temperatures or media containing particles, pressure tubing provides isolation. Short installation lengths also make the transmitters vulnerable to pipeline vibrations and impacts from the medium, which can lead to damage to the transmitters and compromise the stability and accuracy of measurements.
Short installation facilitates heat preservation, reduces the need for maintenance of pressure transfer pipes, and protects them from the effects of medium condensation and vaporization; Short-mounted instruments are inconvenient to inspect and are affected by pipeline vibrations. In short, short installation has its advantages and disadvantages, and there are no corresponding standards. So it can only be chosen as needed. In my opinion, when using a quick installation method, it is first necessary to ensure that the gauge being used is reliable. As long as the surface can withstand rough treatment, the disadvantage of short installation is no longer a problem. Additionally, short installations should not be used on a large scale, as more drawbacks become apparent when the quantity increases.
The installation locations of field instruments vary greatly, and there are many different types of media. In some areas, such as tank farms, most pipes are not very high above the ground; it is therefore practical to use short mounting brackets for the instruments installed on these pipes. For some media, properties such as temperature and viscosity require isolation, so installation cannot be done in a short period of time. In my opinion, short-barreled weapons have their place, just like pistols and rifles – they are suited for different situations.
