I would like to ask: what are the differences between PLC and DCS control in process design, and is there any connection between them? How to represent it in a flowchart.
DCS enables complex control, while PLCs handle stand-alone and simple control. A PLC is composed of various modules (input modules, output modules, communication modules). It performs logical functions and control tasks only, and generally does not provide a human-machine interface. The process control station of DCS is a complete computer system, mainly consisting of a power supply, a high-performance central processing unit (CPU), and network interfaces. However, the development of PLCs today also enables precise control. Simply put, our PLCs usually come in the form of control panels, while DCS systems provide a human-machine interface.
The two have different focuses: DCS is primarily used in automatic control systems, while PLCs are mainly used for electrical control. However, there is a trend toward integration between the two, and it is likely that they will become one in the future.
DCS is a three-base control system with a higher level of complexity, while PLC is used for simple control of individual units and is relatively simpler
