I am currently working on a project, and the client believes that there is a potential difference between different materials, which could lead to electrochemical corrosion; therefore, they insist that insulating gaskets be used for flange gaskets made of different materials. The contractor, on the other hand, believes that wound graphite gaskets should be selected based on the pressure level, and that equal potential can be achieved through jumper wires, thus eliminating the risk of electrochemical corrosion. May I ask if there are any standard requirements for this? What should be used as a guide for choosing flange gaskets made of different materials? :)

The designer did not specify any particular gasket requirements, so a graphite wound gasket was chosen as a standard option. I wonder if the owner’s requirements are reasonable; in my opinion, there is no problem with using the existing construction methods.
During construction, the construction drawings must be strictly followed; any changes should be discussed with the design team, and any requests from the owner should also be brought up for negotiation
Since the owner has made a request, just do as he says. Electrochemical corrosion can still occur under certain conditions; it depends on the environment and the medium involved.
