For spherical heads, the minimum value of the weld joint coefficients for the longitudinal and circumferential weld joints should be taken; should the weld joint coefficient for the butt weld joint between the spherical head and the cylinder also be included? This is an old question from our certificate renewal exam; we still can’t figure it out. We invite all fellow sailors to actively participate in the discussion.

Both the circumferential and longitudinal welds of spherical heads are welds with a first curvature radius; they both belong to Class A welds, and the minimum value among them shall be taken
I believe that the weld joint coefficient for the butt weld joint between the spherical head and the cylinder should not be included, as it is for calculating the thickness of the spherical head. The original poster said it includes, but I’m not sure if there’s any basis for that.
Surely, it’s best to choose the smallest possible insurance coverage; I think the ring seam that comes into contact with the cylinder should be taken into consideration. . But I also didn’t find any concrete evidence:lol:lol:lol
The joint welds belong to Class A welds; the non-destructive testing is the same as that for spherical heads
