Applications of silica sol in various industries
Thread Content
Silica sols possess excellent properties such as high-temperature stability, adhesiveness, film-forming ability, gelling property, adsorption capacity, chargeability, reactivity, a large specific surface area, and being non-toxic, tasteless, and odorless. Therefore, they are widely used in various industries including electronics, catalysts, refractory materials, coatings, inks, textiles, and food. 1. Precision casting: Adhesiveness and high-temperature resistance (for shell manufacturing).2. Polishing: Dispersion and filling properties that enable a glossy, anti-fouling effect (on smartphone screens, metals, ceramics, sapphires, glass, etc.).
3. Papermaking: Its dispersion and adhesiveness can be used to prevent slipping on kraft paper, to form a glossy layer on photographic paper, and to enhance the toughness of pulp.
4. Coatings: Water resistance, high-temperature resistance, and corrosion resistance; it is used as a film-forming agent in high-temperature refractory coatings and as a filler in some exterior wall coatings (it offers good value for money; its effect is significant when mixed with organic substances; the amount of silica sol used should not exceed 10%).
5. Refractory materials: High-temperature resistance and adhesiveness.
6. Textiles: Specific surface area and adsorption properties that increase fiber strength (reduce fiber breaks, prevent fiber scattering, improve the adhesion of pulp, shorten drying time, and help textile products remain wrinkle-free and resistant to wear from washing).
7. Food ; It is used as a clarifying agent in juices or beer, taking advantage of its adsorption and dispersing properties (it allows impurities in food to settle at the bottom). 8. Chemical catalysts: Its dispersing properties are utilized to create carriers for chemical catalysts in industries such as petroleum and petrochemicals. 9. Electronics industry: Its good dispersing, insulating, and bonding properties are used as dispersants in cathode ray tubes. 10. Other applications: toothpaste (to increase its friction), floor wax (for stain prevention and anti-slip effects), batteries, etc.
