The upgrade and renovation utilize the world’s most advanced technologies, including clean coal gasification using water-coal slurry, sulfur-resistant wide-temperature shift reaction, low-temperature methanol washing, liquid nitrogen washing, steam-driven centrifugal compression, and low-pressure ammonia synthesis. 　　Low-carbon environmental protection is also a source of competitiveness. Du Xianghua said that after the upgrade and renovation, the coal consumption per ton of ammonia is reduced by about 200 kg, the overall electricity consumption per ton of ammonia is cut by about 400 kWh, labor productivity can increase by 50%, and the cost per ton of ammonia is reduced by about 600 yuan. These measures will further enhance Yihua Group’s competitiveness in the field of synthetic ammonia. 　　Zhu Yue, deputy head of the Command for the Upgrading of the ammonia synthesis industry, told reporters: \"The upgraded water-coal slurry technology will not only significantly reduce the amount of wastewater discharged from the factory, but it can also handle wastewater with high COD levels from other production lines or even other factories, **thereby reducing the load on the wastewater treatment plants.\" Furthermore, the water-coal slurry technology addresses the issue of non-compliant pollutant emissions from coal-fired boilers, making it highly environmentally friendly. The ash resulting from the combustion of water-coal slurry is also a high-quality building material that can be sold directly. ” 　　Yihua Group will first carry out technical upgrades to the synthetic ammonia gasification units at its subsidiaries in the Yichang area, turning this region into a core technology R&D center. Subsequently, these improvements will be rolled out to subsidiaries across the country. The total capacity of these upgraded synthetic ammonia units will be 2 million tons per year; the total investment in this project is around 5 billion yuan. Once operational, these units will generate an additional annual cash flow of about 1.5 billion yuan. Zhu Yue said that, given the important role of ammonia synthesis production in the national economy, Yihua Group’s actions will play a significant role in promoting the transformation and upgrading of China’s heavy chemical industry. 　　The industrial upgrading and transformation project for synthetic ammonia production at the Yihua Group in Xiaoting District is expected to be completed within 18 months, whereas it usually takes two to three years to build similar facilities in China.
