All newly installed centrifugal pumps require individual testing. What preparations should be made before conducting the individual testing of the pump? What other parameters should be considered when testing a centrifugal pump on a standalone basis? What does it take to consider a single-unit test successful?
1 Check whether the piping system has been connected as required after purging is completed. 2 Install a test filter at the inlet of the centrifugal pump. 3 Check the wiring of the motor; the wiring is complete and meets the requirements. 4 Check that the lubricating oil for the pump has been added in sufficient quantity. 5 Check whether all instruments are functioning properly. 6. Check the coupling; ensure that the pump can be rotated smoothly. Notify the mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation teams as well as the equipment supervisor to be present to check whether power is being supplied to the pump. 7. Open the inlet valve of the pump. 8 Press the motor start button, and pay attention to the motor’s current level. 9. Slowly open the pump’s outlet valve (the minimum flow line is usually used for single-unit water transportation); pay attention to the reading on the outlet pressure gauge. Check whether there is dew point on the orifice plate of the pump outlet flow meter. 10 Record the vibration of the individual pump. 11 Keep records during the commissioning process, noting the voltage and current of the motor, etc. Record parameters such as flow rate and head of the pump during the testing process for 12 units.
