The denitration pumps in our factory are hydraulic diaphragm pumps. The medium transported by these pumps is low-concentration ammonia water, and 20-grade transformer oil is used as the hydraulic fluid. Within less than a week of operation, the hydraulic oil in all 6 pumps turned reddish-brown and was filled with a large amount of sludge; we have been unable to identify the cause. We earnestly request guidance from those with more experience!
Our factory uses diaphragm metering pumps, and the medium is concentrated sulfuric acid. For a while, the oil turned red as well, and the environment was acidic. The cause was found to be a small hole in the diaphragm; it’s impossible to detect such a hole without close inspection. Now that the diaphragm has been replaced, the problem is resolved.
It must be due to a leak in the medium!

All six pumps are in the same condition; it is likely that the wrong diaphragm was used, which caused the leakage.
Is transformer oil suitable for use in hydraulics? Is there also an issue with the viscosity of the oil, and in what temperature range is it intended to be used?
Generally, the diaphragm is damaged; disassemble the pump and examine the diaphragm carefully to check for any defects.
I disassembled one unit and replaced the diaphragm, but the situation remained unchanged
We conducted an experiment: we put some new oil in a bottle and dropped ammonia directly into the oil, but nothing changed
If there’s a medium leak, just dropping ammonia solution in doesn’t seem to cause any change! ?
