Previously, steel cable trays with a cover plate on top and a bottom plate at the bottom were used. Since the workshop is an open-type facility, water easily enters the cable trays when it rains. As the cable trays have a bottom plate, the accumulated water cannot be drained promptly, which over time leads to severe corrosion of the cable trays. Now we want to replace the cable tray; I’m not sure whether a steel cable tray without a bottom plate can be used. I need a solution, thank you!
I did a search – is a grid-type cable tray one that doesn’t have upper or lower covers, but only has grids to support the cables?
Previously, steel cable trays with a cover plate on top and a bottom plate at the bottom were used. Then you are using trough-type steel cable trays; you can also use tray-type, stepped, or modular cable trays.
Put simply, it’s like the basket in front of a bicycle; the cables inside are all tied up. If a cover is needed, it can be ordered from the manufacturer, which makes maintenance and inspection much easier, as there’s no need to lift the tray cover every time
It’s a ladder-type cable tray; it’s not an instrument wire, so there should be no problem.
Generally, such locations use trough boxes with small holes at the bottom.
Those with a bottom plate are slot-type cable trays; they tend to accumulate water, and aluminum alloy can be used as the material. Or switch to a ladder-type cable tray. As long as the protective tube at the cable outlet is sealed properly with explosion-proof putty, there will be no problems; cable trays are not related to the issue of being explosion-proof or not.
Do you all use protective tubes? Have you ever used direct Goran head sealing without using explosion-proof putty?
You are referring to the situation where the cable enters the control column or junction box; if an explosion-proof flexible hose is not used, it can be sealed using a Golan connector, also known as a cable clamp sealing joint
