Why are the signals at the site connected to different cabinets? Are there any connected to the power distribution panel (PDP), some connected to the system cabinet (SYS), others connected to the analog input cabinet (AMC), still others connected to the digital input cabinet (DMC), and are there any connected to the safety barrier cabinet (SBC)? What is this process, and why is it connected to different cabinets? How is it done from the back? A layperson here is seeking advice from professionals: lol
I’ll explain it briefly: Those connected to the power cabinet are used when additional power is needed for instruments on-site; in such cases, a power cable is drawn from the power cabinet to those instruments, such as electromagnetic flowmeters. Those connected to the system cabinet involve the internal wiring of the system. As the name implies, the system is a unit for signal processing, and almost all signals must be connected to the system cabinet. Analog signals are typically 4-20mA signals, coming from various transmitters and control valves, while digital signals consist of DI/DO points, such as information regarding valve positions. Different cabinets are equipped with cards that handle different types of input/output signals. The safety barrier cabinet is designed specifically for intrinsically safe instruments; signal wires must pass through this safety barrier before entering the system. There are also surge protection cabinets, used for lightning protection, and they are placed before the aforementioned cabinets. In some projects, there is a terminal cabinet where all signals are first connected to it before being distributed further, as this makes maintenance easier, though the benefit isn’t very significant
