The cooling capacity of air separation systems is primarily generated by expanders, accounting for around 80%; the remaining portion comes from throttling. Throttling involves significant pressure losses, which makes it unsuitable for large-scale cooling applications. The introduction of booster expanders has **enhanced the advantages of expansion-based cooling, allowing the expansion work to be utilized more effectively and reducing the energy consumption of air separation processes. Just as liquid expanders are now widely used, their purpose is to recover as much of the pressure loss as possible~~
