In an oil mist lubrication system, the transmission distance of the oil mist generally does not exceed 30 m. However, in some products, the transmission distance of oil mist can reach 80 meters, and in some cases even 100 meters. Why is that? How is the transmission distance determined, and what factors are related to it?
Oil mist lubrication technology is a new method of lubrication that utilizes the energy of compressed air to atomize liquid lubricant into small particles ranging from 1um to 3um. These particles remain suspended in the compressed air, forming a mixture known as oil mist. Under the force of their own pressure, this oil mist is delivered through transmission pipelines to various locations where it is needed, thereby providing lubrication. The oil mist lubrication system is a cost-effective, environmentally friendly, and safe centralized lubrication system that consists of a lubricator, nozzles, oil mist transmission pipes, and lubrication accessories. This lubrication system can continuously and efficiently automate the atomization of lubricant into small particles, and precisely deliver fresh, clean misty lubricant to multiple lubrication points, covering the components to be lubricated evenly in order to lubricate and cool them. Oil mist nozzles can be selected based on the operating speed of the component to be lubricated, and each lubricator can be equipped with multiple nozzles. Advantages: 1. High lubrication efficiency – the fresh oil mist, when lubricated by compressed air, can spread to the areas that require lubrication, thereby providing these areas with a good and even level of lubrication, which significantly extends the lifespan of the moving parts. 2. Compressed air has a low specific heat and high flow velocity, which enables it to easily carry away the heat generated by friction; as a result, the temperature of the frictioning surfaces decreases, and the power consumption of the equipment is reduced. 3. It significantly reduces the oil consumption for lubrication; the friction pairs always have a fresh, appropriate amount of lubricant, and its spraying function helps to ensure clean operation of these friction pairs. 4. The relatively thin oil circulation lubrication system features a simple and lightweight structure, small floor space, low power consumption, easy maintenance and management, a high degree of automation, and low costs. 5. Due to the pressure exerted by the oil mist, it can provide an effective sealing effect, preventing external impurities and moisture from entering the friction pair. 6. It has a wide range of applications; currently, oil mist lubrication is already in use in calendering equipment and metallurgical machinery. Disadvantages: Although oil mist lubrication provides good lubrication effects, consumes less oil, offers excellent heat dissipation capabilities, and can increase the maximum speed at which rolling bearings can operate, it pales in comparison to oil-gas lubrication. Oil mist must be transported using large-diameter pipes, typically 2 1/2”, and the transmission distance is usually 30 meters, with a maximum of no more than 80 meters ; Adjusting the oil mist volume is also difficult, and changes in oil viscosity have a significant impact on its atomization ability; therefore, the oil temperature must be strictly controlled. The gas emitted from oil mist lubrication contains some suspended tiny oil particles, which are harmful to human health; therefore, in places where oil mist lubrication is used extensively, ventilation systems must also be installed.
