If the outlet of the water pump is reduced in diameter, the flow rate will decrease while the head increases. What happens if the outlet is enlarged? Does the pressure decrease as well?
As the flow rate increases, the pressure at the pump outlet certainly decreases. However, the pump outlet valve can be used to regulate the flow rate. If the diameter of the pump outlet pipe is increased, the flow rate remains unchanged, and the pressure before the pump outlet valve stays the same. But at points further downstream from the pump outlet valve, such as the final outlet, the pressure increases due to a reduced pressure drop in the pipeline.
The pressure gauge reading may decrease, but the flow rate increases.
In other words, with constant flow and pressure, if the pipe diameter increases, the pressure loss decreases as well – it’s only advantages, right?
Don’t focus only on the benefits of lower pressure loss; these benefits may not be sufficient to offset the increased costs and expenses that come with enlarging the pipelines. :lol
If the normal operating flow rate remains unchanged, the pressure hardly changes.
We are the construction party; the pump outlet is DN40, and we want to use DN40 pipes. However, the design office insists on enlarging the diameter to DN80. I also want to save on materials, but the design office will not agree. . .
