The carbon scrubber in the water-coal slurry gasification unit tends to get clogged when the water circulation is established at the start-up of the plant. What is the reason?

Our company faces the same issue; there’s no way to solve it. There is basically no pressure difference between the carbon scrubber tower and the pipelines used for operation, so pressure is what is used to push the fluid through. From the beginning, it’s not possible to use water to carry away the ash and debris, and the pipes are quite thin – 100 mm in diameter – which is even thinner than the pipes used for discharging water from the gasification furnace. As a result, ash easily accumulates in these pipes

It’s also possible to force drainage, but the risks are high. From the start, it would be advisable to create a negative pressure in the third stage of flash evaporation, and send the water from the carbon scrubber tower to that stage for extraction by vacuum pumps; however, this has not been tried yet, but it is assumed to be feasible

Was the pipeline not cleaned properly? Too much ash in the water?
