Our facility uses water ring vacuum pumps to create a vacuum in the tower; these vacuum pumps are connected after the buffer tank, and there is a gas-liquid separation tank at the outlet of the vacuum pumps. The tower top condensation is carried out using primary water at 28°C. The temperature of the reflux tank is 28°C. However, during the operation process, especially at the beginning of operation, a large amount of benzene vapor is drawn out by the vacuum pump. After being drawn out, the gas is completely discharged through the overflow line of the buffer tank, resulting in a very strong benzene odor at the site. Solutions are sought to reduce the amount of benzene drawn out or to recover the benzene-containing exhaust gases.
It is recommended to use dry, oil-free vacuum pumps, and to employ variable-frequency soft starting to minimize toluene leakage
Don’t draw when the pressure is too low; Or the temperature of the material being loaded is too high; wait until the temperature drops before pumping it out!
Our production requirements specify that the process parameters should be maintained at -70 KPA, and we have been wondering whether this is caused by an excessively large opening degree of the suction valve. But recently, without adjusting the opening degree of the intake valve, there has sometimes been a benzene smell, and at other times almost none.
Replacing the pump isn’t an option; a dry pump costs tens of thousands of dollars! Haha
