For the insulation materials used to cover pipes later on, our factory now uses composite silicate mortar. However, the construction teams are not qualified, and we constantly find that the pipes rust severely. Is this related to the insulation materials? Which type of supplementary insulation material is good?
It should be fine; it depends on the tightness of the insulation cover – is water constantly getting into the insulation?
After the mortar is applied, the insulation sheeting is not installed anymore – is this not in compliance with the standards?
Quality control is crucial for insulation projects; otherwise, voids, gaps, and poor sealing will lead to severe heat loss.
Personal opinion: Pipes rust because the anti-corrosion coating on their outer surface is not properly applied. Although there is an insulation layer, anti-corrosion paint should also be applied to the outer surface of the pipes. For insulated pipes, the outer surface of the pipe is coated with rust-proof paint, followed by an insulation layer, with a protective layer on the outside.

First, you need to tell everyone what kind of pipeline it is, what material it’s made of, and what the temperature is, so that we can give you a better assessment. High-temperature pipes do not rust during normal operation; if rust appears, it means the temperature is not high enough. In that case, the problem likely lies in the anti-corrosion and waterproofing measures. Select paint suitable for the pipeline’s operating temperature, and apply waterproofing measures to the outer layer.
