During normal production, as well as when the system is operated at reduced capacity or with gas isolation, the flow meters at the three outlets are always filled with liquid, which results in a decrease in the outlet flow rate. The anti-surge valves are all open yet the system is still at the surge point; in fact, there is no surge occurring on site. I called a technician to drain the liquid ammonia from the flow meter, but there wasn’t much of it – just a few drops. After it was drained, things improved for a while, but then it stopped working again. . . . . . I asked how this phenomenon comes about How to solve it?
The three-stage outlet flow meter is carrying liquid; this is likely due to insufficient insulation of your pressure transfer pipes. The pressure and temperature at the three-stage outlets are high, and as the fluid passes through these pipes it cools down rapidly. Under low temperature and high pressure, gaseous ammonia turns into liquid ammonia, which is what causes the presence of liquid in the system. It is possible to properly insulate the pressure tap pipe, or shorten its length!
