The fourth company I consulted was recommended by my third client. Because this company uses products from a third party, it has achieved a world-leading level in hospital disinfection and cleaning services in our country. The head of the thoracic surgery department at a hospital in the People’s Liberation Army went to Federal Germany (when the two Germanys had not yet been unified) to pursue a doctorate in thoracic surgery. There, he observed that German hospitals had a very high level of medical management, and the infection rate among patients after surgeries was low, which was closely related to the quality of cleaning services in those hospitals. So, I pursued an additional degree in health administration, obtaining a dual doctorate. Upon returning to his home country, he introduced foreign medical administration practices and hospital cleaning protocols there, in an effort to reduce the postoperative infection rate among patients who undergo surgeries. She also established a professional cleaning service company, aiming to achieve breakthroughs in the quality of cleaning services at the hospital where she worked. However, after some time of exploration and effort, it was found that this is a systematic project that cannot be achieved through unilateral efforts alone. So I contacted the consulting company where I work, hoping to obtain ISO9001 certification in order to establish a systematic framework for hospital cleaning services, thereby improving the hospital’s service standards and capabilities. The third short story mentions that during cleaning and disinfection in hospitals, patients are very sensitive to the pungent smell of disinfectants. However, many surgical patients are at risk of cross-infection, so it is necessary to maintain a relatively sterile environment. My previous client, upon learning of this situation due to hospitalization, developed odorless disinfecting effervescent tablets specifically for this purpose. They also asked me to assist their cleaning service company in establishing a quality management system in order to ensure the proper flow of the product value chain. Through my research, I found that customers have very high standards for themselves; they hope that through their own cleaning and disinfection processes, the surfaces of the objects treated can withstand inspection under a laboratory microscope. Despite conducting various tests, the disinfection and cleaning results remained unsatisfactory. My colleague and I spent several days at the cleaning site, carefully observing the various actions carried out by the cleaners, meticulously documenting the processes involved in cleaning, and analyzing all the factors that affect disinfection and cleaning. We created a detailed table in which every aspect – materials, tools, number of personnel, actions, time taken, and test results – was compared against one another, identifying dozens of key factors that influence the effectiveness of disinfection. There are two core issues here: first, the cleaning procedures are not followed properly, and some areas are neglected, which allows bacteria to spread ； Second, the disinfection interval is unreasonable, leading to the recurrence of bacteria. Of course, there are also issues with cleaning tools. To this end, we have prepared a series of procedural documents and operation manuals covering the procurement of cleaning supplies, the preparation of disinfectants, the use of cleaning tools, the key steps for performing cleaning tasks, the allocation of cleaning areas and schedules, the supervision and inspection of cleaning activities, as well as the evaluation of cleaning effectiveness. The content is designed to be as straightforward and detailed as possible, acting like a user manual for beginners, so that cleaners can understand it at a glance and learn how to use it easily. At the same time, several experienced cleaners were assigned to carry out the tests. After repeated checks and adjustments, the demonstration movements were recorded as instructional videos to help everyone learn. As the cleaning staff became more skilled, and thanks to the improved quality of the disinfectants used, we were finally able to achieve a bacteria-free environment four hours after cleaning and disinfection, just a few months later. The Chinese Academy of Preventive Medicine and relevant infectious disease societies held a field meeting at the hospital. More than 100 experts and scholars each took several sterile cotton swabs to collect samples from areas such as the floors that had been cleaned, stair railings, tables and chairs, bathrooms, sinks, doorknobs, and window sills. These samples were examined under a microscope, and not a single bacterium was found; moreover, there was no smell of disinfectant in the area. This incident caused a sensation throughout the country’s healthcare system at the time. In fact, both the slow-release molecules in the disinfectant and the actions and procedures involved in disinfection and cleaning play a role in this. Statistical results show that the successful implementation of this disinfection and cleaning system has significantly reduced the infection rate among surgical patients, while also decreasing the use of antibiotics, thereby contributing to a faster recovery for these patients after surgery. The dual-phD director leading this research project shared the preliminary results with his German counterparts, which drew their great attention; they immediately sent people to conduct an inspection and purchased our system documents for N million marks. Soon, an invitation was sent from Germany, inviting our cleaning staff to go there as demonstration instructors. Dozens of cleaning staff who had previously worked as nannies traveled to various hospitals in Germany in batches to conduct demonstration training. Before we could obtain system certification, representatives from Germany approached us with an offer of cooperation. They would provide us with a complete set of more advanced cleaning tools, consumables, and funding, while we would supply patented disinfectants as well as cleaning staff (because even when using the disinfection tablets we provide, German cleaners are unable to maintain a sterile environment for four hours). The two parties reached a cooperation agreement, and the company became the XX Disinfection and Cleaning Service Company for Sino-German cooperation. The German side also sent a senior permanent manager, a slightly shy older unmarried man who could speak a little Chinese, but his expertise and experience in medical administration were by no means lacking. Following his advice, we expanded the scope of our management system to include the disinfection of operating rooms and surgical instruments, medical examination equipment, hospital bedding and clothing, as well as hospitals and patients’ canteens; we also extended this to the disinfection of ambulances. In addition, we provided guidance services, logistical support for medical staff, patient care and rehabilitation services, and home ward services. We also offered disinfection and cleaning services for public places such as buses, sports venues, stations and airports, cinemas, schools, and kindergartens. A comprehensive, multi-industry disinfection and cleaning service system has been established. Our disinfection and cleaning methods have also been approved by **the relevant authorities as industry standards. Several top-tier hospitals in Beijing and across the country have signed contracts with this cleaning company, causing the company’s annual cleaning revenue to rise sharply from less than one million yuan to over ten million yuan. The company was also specially approved by the Ministry of Education to establish a vocational school for disinfection and cleaning services, in order to train professionals in these areas who are in short supply. Passing the certification smoothly was only a matter of time. Due to the involvement of patented technologies and trade secrets, as well as many specific methods for disinfection and cleaning, I cannot go into detail; after all, this is part of what makes China’s healthcare industry at the forefront of the world. For this consulting project, the client and our company had an agreement in the contract: the consulting fees were to be calculated by multiplying the degree of improvement in the client’s economic performance by a certain percentage. If a client’s revenue increases from less than one million to over ten million, how much should be paid as consulting fees? Since the revenue generated by the client increased gradually, that was the end of it after the client paid two more consultation fees. At that time, this was already a very high amount for a single contract. I admit that a large part of the achievements achieved by the client are due to the dedicated efforts of the client’s leadership, the hard work and intelligence of its staff, and the power of technological knowledge.
