Generally, alkyl organic bromides have high flame-retardant efficiency because they can release bromine at lower temperatures; however, their thermal stability is poor, and they cannot withstand high processing temperatures. Furthermore, re-mixing plastics with such bromides causes severe degradation, which is therefore not conducive to plastic recycling. The case of aromatic organic bromides is the exact opposite of the above. Flame retardants that contain both alkyl bromides and aryl bromides (such as octabromodiphenyl ether) seem to be able to possess the characteristics of both types of bromides mentioned above. If P is introduced into organic bromides, a P-Br synergistic effect can be obtained. The use of inorganic flame retardants or intumescent flame retardants in PP can reduce the amount of smoke and toxic substances generated during the thermal decomposition or combustion of PP. To enable PP to meet the UL-94 V-0 standard, a total of 40% flame retardants need to be added (such as 20% DBDPO, 6% antimony trioxide, and about 15% inorganic fillers); otherwise, the molten droplets cannot be eliminated. However, such a high content of flame retardants causes the flame-retardant PP to lose its original resilience and other excellent properties. Fillers treated with 0.5%-3.0% titanate coupling agents can improve the flexibility and flame retardancy of PP.
