Has anyone ever seen insulated chimneys? If so, in what industries are they used, under what operating conditions, and what is the purpose of insulation? Is it to prevent acid dew point corrosion, or is it just simple personal protection?

Generally, chimneys do not require insulation, but I have seen spray drying flues that are insulated, as they emit large amounts of water vapor; this insulation helps prevent the vapor from liquefying and forming condensation on the walls, which could affect the operation of the fans.
I haven’t seen insulated chimneys yet; I have seen insulation on hot gas pipelines, which is probably to prevent dew point corrosion. Study*study*.
I’ve never heard of insulating chimneys. To control dew point corrosion, it’s usual to adjust the process parameters in order to control the exhaust gas temperature. When the chimney is operating normally, no one goes up there, so there’s no need for any protection measures for people. Where did you see that?
Now, all chimneys are equipped with online monitoring systems. There are sampling holes downstream for the environmental protection agency to take samples for inspection. The exhaust temperature from these chimneys is around 150 degrees – isn’t any personal protective equipment needed in such situations?
