Fluctuations in DCS current indication

The diesel hydrogenation feed pump is equipped with a current indicator on the DCS; recently it has been fluctuating irregularly, with the operating current dropping suddenly to zero before rising back to the normal level within 3 seconds. During this period, neither the outlet flow rate nor the outlet pressure changes. What could be the cause of this?
