I. Characteristics of PVC pipes: PVC, whose full name is Polyvinylchlorid, is primarily made of polyvinyl chloride; other ingredients are added to enhance its heat resistance, toughness, and ductility. It is a plastic material synthesized from 43% oil and 57% salt. Compared to other types of plastic products, PVC makes more efficient use of raw materials, reducing fuel consumption. At the same time, the PVC manufacturing industry also has a low energy consumption. Moreover, at the end of the life cycle of PVC products, they can be recycled and converted into other new products or burned to generate energy. Stabilizers are added during the production of PVC, but there are different types of stabilizers. It is only when stabilizers such as lead salts are used that potential hazards arise. However, PVC products vary in quality; some small companies use lead salts as stabilizers. The precipitation of lead salts from the thermal stabilizers in PVC pipes can directly cause heavy metal contamination in drinking water. PVC pipes that use lead salt stabilizers, when buried underground, cause the soil surrounding them to contain excessive levels of heavy metals; therefore, their use was banned in 2004. Of this, rigid PVC accounts for about 2/3 of the market, while soft PVC accounts for 1/3. Soft PVC is generally used for floors, ceilings, and the surface layers of leather. However, because soft PVC contains softeners (which is what distinguishes it from hard PVC), it tends to become brittle and is not easy to store, which limits its range of applications. Rigid PVC contains no softeners, which gives it good flexibility, makes it easy to shape, reduces its tendency to break, and ensures it is non-toxic and pollution-free; it also has a long shelf life. Therefore, it holds great potential for development and application. II. Application areas of PVC pipes PVC is essentially a vacuum-formed film used for the surface packaging of various panels; it is therefore also known as a decorative film or adhesive film. It is employed in many industries such as construction materials, packaging, and pharmaceuticals. Among them, the building materials industry accounts for the largest share, at 60%, followed by the packaging industry, along with several other industries with limited applications. III. Methods for identifying PVC pipes: 1: First, check the surface smoothness and whiteness. 2: When testing samples by dropping them, those that break easily are usually products with high calcium content. Of course, it must meet your requirements; if the price is appropriate, it’s acceptable. 3: Take the sample and step on the edge of the pipe to see if it cracks, or to determine the elongation at break after cracking. 4: It’s quite troublesome in terms of weather resistance. The most direct method is to place it in a high-temperature, bright area for a few days and observe the rate of changes on its surface, but this is too time-consuming.
