The densities of the oil phase and the water phase are very similar, making it impossible to separate them in a short time. Does anyone have better methods or techniques that they could share?

Separating oil-water mixtures with similar densities is indeed a challenge. In refineries, where the main process involves processing oils, it is possible to consider adjusting conditions such as temperature during the processing to facilitate separation; moreover, care must be taken to ensure that the alkalinity of the water phase is not too high (in oil processing, alkalis or ammonia are sometimes added to prevent corrosion and to remove acidic gases). The method of adding salts to the aqueous phase for separation is highly unsuitable for the oil refining process. For crude oil or heavier oils, electric field dehydration can be considered, similar to the electrodesalination process used for crude oil.
Membrane technology should be the way forward! Industrialization is quite difficult!
