Is it necessary to use steam for purging steam pipes? I am currently working on a project for a nitration plant, where the outer tubes of the jacketed pipes are heated using steam. The pipe specifications state that the steam pipes should be flushed with clean water, but document 50235 specifies that they should instead be purged with steam
Flushing and purging are not the same thing, right?
The water flow rate for rinsing is slow, and there’s a concern that it won’t clean thoroughly

Rinsing: Generally done with clean water, mainly used for long (large) pipes and water systems, such as fire protection pipes. Purging: Generally used in areas where water is prohibited, such as instrument air systems, low-temperature pipelines, etc. Meanwhile, purging can be done using steam, as well as air, CO2, nitrogen, etc.
Water cannot remove oil stains and residue; although steam is a bit more expensive, it’s still worth using as it yields much better results
