The method of using a steel sleeve compensator, also known as a steel sleeve type compensation joint, involves connecting one flange end of the compensator to the flange on the pipeline or to the flange of a valve fitting, while inserting the other end of the tube into the socket. The insertion length should be slightly less than the total length of this product; it is advisable to mark a line indicating the desired insertion length on the tube’s end for accurate control. Before installation, check that the adjustment bolts are in their most relaxed position and that the rubber seals inside the socket are not compressed. When inserting the tube, you can apply soapy water to it in advance to reduce friction and facilitate insertion. After the pipe is inserted, the adjustment bolts should be tightened gradually in a cyclic manner to ensure a tight fit between the rubber seal ring in the socket and the pipe. When sleeve compensators are used at the ends of pipelines (that is, at the terminal ends of the lines), it is necessary to consider installing end supports in order to counteract the thrust generated by the medium inside the pipeline. Steel sleeve compensators are primarily used in pipeline systems to accommodate mechanical displacement and thermal expansion, thereby absorbing vibrations and reducing noise; they can absorb displacements in all directions.
