A valve is a control component in fluid transportation systems, with functions such as shutting off flow, regulating it, directing it, preventing backflow, stabilizing pressure, diverting flow, or releasing pressure through overflow. Generally speaking, valves are usually closed clockwise and opened counterclockwise, or in other words, opened on the left and closed on the right. Most of the screws used in valve materials in our country are right-handed, as this makes processing easier. Those with hand wheels will have direction arrows or O→S markings on them (O stands for open, S for closed). Are valves all closed clockwise? There are indeed exceptions! For example, the pressure regulators on oxygen cylinders, hydrogen cylinders, nitrogen cylinders, etc. are turned clockwise to open and counterclockwise to close. For example, some special types of valves such as slide valves and butterfly valves, due to factors like their installation location, operate in such a way that clockwise rotation opens them while counterclockwise rotation closes them. Special valves are usually installed in reverse, and this needs to be taken into account when operating them. Due to improper installation locations, operators must pay attention to these detailed issues. Details determine success or failure; carelessness is not tolerated. Generally, special types of valves have the direction in which they should be opened and closed indicated in a prominent location; in some cases, relevant operating instructions are also attached to such valves to prevent incorrect use.
