This is a quite ordinary stainless steel floating ball valve. Let me explain how to determine whether a valve is of good quality or not: 1. Appearance – Judging from its appearance, the quality of the casting is average. In the inscription indicating the furnace number, “AF280”, the font used for the number 280 is clearly different from that used for “AF”. Generally speaking, when electronic display fonts are used to indicate furnace numbers, the quality of the casting will not be very good, as such fonts can usually be changed easily. 2. Valve body design – The rounding at the junctions between different parts of the valve body is not properly designed. It seems that this valve body was manufactured using molds provided by a casting factory; since some casting factories have their own molds for valve bodies, there are often no blueprints available when creating these molds, and the design relies on the experience of the mold manufacturers. As a result, attention is not paid to the rounding at corners and where different thicknesses meet. In fact, such rounded edges can have a significant impact on the casting process and the strength of the valve body. 3. The gap at the position where the two flanges are connected with bolts is too small; such a small gap makes it difficult to adjust the joint between the flanges. As a result, this type of flange connection is prone to leakage and is difficult to adjust. 4. Judging by visual proportions, the thickness of this connecting flange certainly does not meet the requirements of the design calculations; however, this is normal for stainless steel valves, as the raw materials are expensive and manufacturers try to save costs wherever possible.
