I stopped the operation of the unit in order to open the DN300 gate valve, but the handwheel wouldn’t turn. Normally, this valve remains closed and not in use; it is only opened during shutdowns. As shown in the picture, after removing the valve, it appears that something dirty and rusted has blocked the valve stem, preventing the valve from opening. It's caused by something else. Also, what methods can be used in the future to prevent valves from failing to open? Please discuss, extra points available
What medium is it traveling on? There’s nothing to do if too much sediment accumulates; add a filter in front
There is too much dirt in the medium. Regular sewage discharge
Severe internal scaling has caused the moving parts to get stuck
There is corrosion; investigate the cause by checking the pipeline, and verify whether the filter screen has been cleaned

The deposition of medium on the sealing surface caused the valve to fail to open! To prevent the deposition of medium particles at the seal, a protective gas can be used to shield the sealing surface.
What part of the valve does the sealing surface refer to?
