A stop valve is a type of valve that is frequently used in our daily work and production. Depending on the operating conditions, its material varies as well; it can be made of cast steel, stainless steel, and so on. So how do we distinguish between those made of cast steel and those made of stainless steel? We can distinguish between cast steel globe valves and stainless steel globe valves from five aspects: 1. Surface brightness: The surface of cast iron is dull and gray, while that of cast steel is shiny. There is also a significant difference between gray cast iron and ductile iron within cast iron, with ductile iron being shinier than gray cast iron. 2. Surface particles: The surface of cast steel is very dense, and particles are generally not visible to the naked eye. Both gray iron and ductile iron show particles, with the particles in gray iron being larger. 3. Sound: The sound produced by the collision of cast steel parts is different from that of cast iron parts. 4. Gas cutting: The surface of cast steel parts is very rough, and the areas of gates and risers are large; gas cutting is necessary to remove these defects. Gas cutting cannot be used to cut ductile iron. 5. Toughness: The toughness of cast steel is similar to that of steel plates; ductile iron is slightly less tough compared to cast steel. Thin-walled components can withstand bends of 20–30 degrees, but gray cast iron has no toughness.
