I’d like to ask everyone: when installing pipes, do you usually make sure that the straight sections between the flanges and elbows, as well as the straight sections connecting the two elbows, have lengths that are whole numbers? Also, do you ensure that the elevation of the bottom of the pipes in those supported sections is also a whole number when installing the pipes?
Only minimum requirements are needed; it’s not necessary to use integers. For the sake of ease in cutting, integers can be used
It depends on personal preference; I prefer integers – it’s just an obsession of mine. I usually make sure that the coordinates of the elbows are integers, but it’s not possible to ensure that the coordinates of the intermediate pipe sections are integers; generally, the coordinates at the bottom of the pipes are set to integers.

Therefore, when making annotations, it is more important to determine the position of the points rather than the length of the pipe segments. But as mentioned above, for some positioning data, such as the elevation of the pipe bottom, it’s better to set them to whole numbers; this facilitates communication and memory during the initial stages, as well as the work in subsequent processes.
The straight pipe sections between the flanges and elbows, as well as those connecting two elbows, should have elevations at their bottoms that are integers whenever possible; otherwise, the workers on site will refuse to cut or deliver the materials. For example: It’s awkward when a worker goes to the warehouse and asks for a straight pipe section of 1031 millimeters. If it is designed to be an integer of 1 meter, this problem does not exist. There’s no need to round off completely; in many cases, the decision is made based on the actual circumstances. As the people above mentioned, they are all very practical. Actually, using 0 and 5 is the most common approach, as it’s easier to operate. At the same time, we should also take into account the effects of stress, as well as the convenience of operation and space utilization; after all, we create drawings so that construction can be carried out efficiently, and saving time and effort is a fundamental requirement.
