How should this be connected? Should a DN40 flange be welded directly to the pipe end?
Isn’t this a flange? Why weld it? Make a reduced-diameter connection using a 50 flange, or convert the pipe end to a 40 flange

So how can it be connected? The flanges definitely need to match in size
The flanges of DN40 and DN50 do not match, so they cannot be connected. Since the drawings specify pipes of size 40, but the pipes on site are of size 50, a reducing pipe, also known as an elbow, can be used to achieve the necessary connection. This is quite normal. I’d like to explain how this situation arises; based on my previous design experience, as well as the process of providing instructions during on-site construction, I often encounter such situations during the follow-up of on-site construction work. That is, on the larger equipment mentioned below, appropriate allowances for flow rates at the pipe connections are usually made during the design phase, in order to facilitate future modifications and capacity increases. This is just my personal opinion; it may not be correct. I think it’s important to communicate more with designers as well as those involved in on-site construction. That’s why there are cases where the capacity is increased from 40 to 50. Under normal circumstances, no adjustments are made. A DN50 flange cover can be used to create a hole for DN40, thus forming a reduced-diameter flange.
Can it be connected this way at the bottom of the pot as well? I went to the site and saw that it’s quite common to do this at the material inlet on the kettle lid.
If the discharge port at the bottom of the tank isn’t connected properly, material is likely to accumulate there.
Designing pipes is a bit simpler than designing custom flanges.
