The China-Russia Eastern Route starts in Heihe, Heilongjiang in the north and extends to Shanghai in the south, with a total length of 5,111 kilometers. It is constructed in three sections: the northern section (Heihe, Heilongjiang–Changling, Jilin), the central section (Changling, Jilin–Yongqing, Hebei), and the southern section (Yongqing, Hebei–Shanghai). Since the northern section was put into operation and started delivering gas in December 2019, the various sections of the China-Russia East Pipeline, from Changling in Jilin to Taixing in Jiangsu, have been brought online one after another. The annual gas transmission volume has increased from 5 billion cubic meters at the beginning of operation to a current peak of 38 billion cubic meters. The Nantong-Luzhi section, which has been put into operation and made operational, is the last newly built pipeline segment of the southern part of the China-Russia East Route. Its completion marks the full connection of the entire China-Russia East Route, enabling natural gas to be transported from the north to Shanghai. By connecting with the West-East Gas Transmission pipeline system, it also allows gas to reach areas such as Zhejiang and Anhui. With the completion of the entire pipeline network, the China-Russia East Route is connected to the Northeast pipeline network, the Shaanxi-Beijing pipeline system, the West-East Gas Transmission pipeline system, as well as various liquefied natural gas receiving stations along the coast. This facilitates an improvement in the natural gas supply capacity and emergency response capabilities in China’s eastern region.
