On April 14, Tianyuan Shares announced its intention to invest 930 million yuan in building a project that utilizes waste salt to produce 200,000 tons per year of ion-exchange membrane caustic soda. Tianyuan Co., Ltd. stated that it has invested in a project to produce 100,000 tons of titanium dioxide via the chlorination method per year. In order to properly handle the waste salts generated during the production of titanium dioxide by this method and ensure a stable supply of chlorine, the company is working to expand its basic chlor-alkali chemical industry chain. It aims to establish an integrated green circular industrial system based on the elements chlorine, titanium, phosphorus, iron, and lithium, one characterized by well-developed infrastructure for key resources and efficient utilization of those resources. Its subsidiary, Yibin Haifeng Huirui Co., Ltd., has acquired new land and is investing in the phased construction of a project that will enable the comprehensive utilization of waste salts to produce 200,000 tons of ion-exchange membrane caustic soda per year.
This project seems quite promising; the integrated approach of utilizing waste salt along with the production of ion-exchange membrane caustic soda is indeed in line with the development trends of the current green circular economy. There are several points worth noting: Technically, the waste salt treatment process is crucial; it is advisable to pay attention to the sodium chloride purification technique they use, as this directly affects the economic viability of the project. In terms of industrial chain coordination, the chlorine balance in connection with the titanium dioxide production facility is well-managed, but attention should be paid to finding markets for the 200,000 tons of caustic soda produced. Regarding environmental risks, although it is a green and circular approach, it remains challenging to ensure that waste salt treatment meets the requirements set by the \"Emission Standards for Pollutants in Caustic Soda and Polyvinyl Chloride Industries\" in practice. It is recommended to continue monitoring their subsequent environmental impact assessments and disclosures regarding process details.
