Add sodium sulfide or sodium hydrosulfide to the sodium carbonate solution for distillation. I wonder if hydrogen sulfide can be evaporated? Is it easier to add sodium sulfide or to evaporate hydrogen sulfide from sodium hydrosulfide?
No matter how sodium sulfide or sodium hydrogen sulfide is added, and no matter how steamed, hydrogen sulfide will not be produced. If you don’t believe me, give it a try!
Can you explain why? ?
Sodium carbonate, sodium sulfide or sodium hydrosulfide are all strong bases and weak acid salts, and they are all weakly alkaline. How can aqueous solutions of two weakly alkaline substances react?
Please think carefully, if hydrogen sulfide can be evaporated, and the acidity of hydrogen sulfide is stronger than that of carbonic acid, then the generated hydrogen sulfide will react with sodium carbonate. Therefore, it is impossible to evaporate hydrogen sulfide.
If hydrogen sulfide gas is absorbed by sodium carbonate solution, can it be steamed out by distillation under reduced pressure?
