The list of the top 10 scientific and technological innovation achievements in Shandong Province for 2025 was compiled under the organization of the Provincial Institute for Innovation and Development, through rigorous screening and voting by over 60 academicians and experts from within and outside the province, from the province’s database of major scientific and technological innovation achievements. These “Outstanding Achievements of Shandong” cover various fields such as basic research, next-generation information technology, high-end equipment, and artificial intelligence, representing the latest achievements and highest standards in scientific and technological innovation in Shandong. It is worth noting that two chemical innovation achievements made it onto this list. Shandong Daon High Polymer Materials Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Daon Group, has successfully achieved large-scale production of high gas-barrier dynamic vulcanized alloy materials (DVA) for use in tires. By doing so, it has broken the foreign technological monopoly and become the second company in the world to produce DVA materials on an industrial scale, marking that China’s high-end tire barrier materials have reached international leading levels. Through 12 years of research and development in collaboration with Beijing University of Chemical Technology, Linglong Tire and other institutions, Daon Share has overcome key technologies such as cross-linked dynamic vulcanization and composite film preparation, successfully developed a new type of DVA material for tires, and achieved large-scale production of it. The airtightness of this material is 7-10 times that of traditional vulcanized butyl rubber; the tire’s ability to retain pressure as well as its durability under pressure have increased by 50%. The thickness and weight of the airtight layer have been reduced by 60%, resulting in a weight reduction of about 1 kilogram per tire. This helps to reduce the rolling resistance of tires during vehicle operation, thereby increasing the driving range by around 5%. It meets the urgent needs for fuel savings in conventional vehicles and improved range in new energy vehicles. At present, this achievement has been applied in tires of various specifications produced by downstream enterprises such as Linglong Tire. It is expected that an annual output value of 1 billion yuan can be achieved within two years, driving the output values of upstream and downstream industries to nearly 10 billion yuan and facilitating the rapid development of China’s tire industry. Wanhua Chemical’s high-performance citral production facility – the world’s largest industrial plant of its kind – has been put into operation by the Wanhua Chemical Group, marking the industrialization of green manufacturing technologies for the entire high-end citral production chain in China. Citral is a fine chemical with high added value and green application properties, widely used in fields such as daily chemicals, feed, food, and pharmaceuticals and health products. For a long time, the technology for large-scale production of high-quality citral on a global scale has been monopolized by foreign companies, leaving domestic markets dependent on imports of high-purity products. After more than a decade of relentless research and innovation, Wanhua Chemical has mastered the core manufacturing technology for citral, successfully developed the entire industrial production process, and built the world’s largest industrial facility for citral production. This facility is capable of producing products with a purity of over 99%, which is 2 percentage points higher than that of similar products abroad, thereby enabling safe and green production of high-quality citral in China. This achievement has been applied in leading fragrance companies both domestically and internationally, generating sales revenue of 500 million yuan. It is expected that over the next three years, the annual production volume of these products will reach 40,000 tons, with an annual output value of 2 billion yuan, thereby driving the total output value of related industries to exceed 6 billion yuan. It is reported that this is the third time that Wanhua Chemical’s innovative achievements have made it onto this list, following those of ADI and POE.
